Estados Unidos y otras potencias occidentales sospechan que el programa nuclear de Irán podría ir destinado a desarrollar armas nucleares, pero Teherán insiste en que su programa solo tiene fines pacíficos. Israel a su vez amenaza con usar la fuerza militar para impedir que Irán se convierta en una potencia nuclear.
Sin embargo, Jalili dijo en conferencia de prensa que los compromisos de Irán con el OIEA (Organismo Internacional de la Energía Atómica) son estables. Además, Jalili también hizo mención a la presencia en Afganistán de EE.UU. durante una década y su incapacidad para frenar el terrorismo y el narcotráfico en el país.
"La pregunta que surge es por qué EE.UU., que se considera una superpotencia, no podía controlar o no quiere controlar el terrorismo y el tráfico de drogas en Afganistán. La cuestión es si fue incapaz o si no quiere controlarlo", subrayó.
Irán se muestra confiado en que las conversaciones con el 'sexteto' sobre su programa atómico comenzarán muy pronto, dijo Jalili.
"Estamos coordinando todas estas cosas y hemos aceptado que estas negociaciones deberían celebrarse en enero, pero hasta el momento los detalles no se han ultimado", dijo.
